WHAT IS SCULPTRA?

Did you know that as early as age 25, your collagen, a protein responsible for maintaining youthful looking skin, begins to decline? The research shows that in your mid 20s to early 30s, collagen will decline approximately 1% per year. What does that mean for you? First, let’s take a step back and discuss what collagen is and how it affects your skin health. Collagen is the most abundant protein found in the human body. It contributes to joint health, cardiovascular health, and of course, skin health! A number of factors contribute to the gradual loss of collagen. These include:

  • UV exposure

  • Hormones

  • Diet

  • Lack of vitamin C

You can think of collagen depletion in the same way people respond to cuts and scrapes. When a child scrapes their knee, it heals very quickly. However, this is not the case with older adults–the healing process takes significantly longer. The issue stems from less collagen and slower skin-cell turnover time.

What can you do to help with the decrease in collagen production?

There are several approaches available. One of our favorite solutions is the injectable product, Sculptra. Sculptra can be injected directly into the subdermal layer to promote natural and healthy collagen regeneration. It has been around since 1999 and gained FDA approval in 2004 for the use of lipoatrophy (facial fat loss) in HIV patients. In our practice, we use this product to address multiple areas for impactful and natural results. For many people, ten syringes of filler is not attainable and does not lead to natural long-term results. This is why we choose Sculptra when addressing global-facial volume loss.

Do you feel like your cheeks, temples, smile-lines, marionette, jaw-line, all need some attention?

If the answer is yes, you are almost certainly a Sculptra candidate! The beautiful thing about this product is that you will look natural and vibrant. This product contains PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid), which is mixed carefully with bacteriostatic saline. PLLA is a collagen stimulator that requires 4-8 weeks to see the benefits. We typically recommend 2 to 3 sessions for optimal results. Contact Blossum to set up a consultation and start your journey to more youthful-looking skin!
