Lip filler is one of the most requested aesthetic treatments in Raleigh, NC, but knowing what to expect can make all the difference in your experience and results.
Before your appointment, your provider will assess your lip anatomy, facial balance, and long-term goals. Not all lips can tolerate the same amount of filler, which is why a customized plan is essential.
Bring in an inspo pic!
We always encourage patients to bring inspiration photos to their lip filler consultation — not because we expect to recreate that exact look, but because it opens an important conversation.
Every person has a different definition of what “beautiful,” “natural,” or “full” means. Inspiration photos help us clearly understand your personal preferences, including what you like and what you don’t like. Some patients love height, others prefer width. Some want a soft enhancement, while others want a more noticeable change. Photos give us a visual language to discuss those differences.
It’s also important to understand that no two lips are the same. Your natural lip shape, tissue quality, proportions, and facial anatomy all play a role in what can realistically be achieved. An honest, experienced provider will use inspiration photos to explain:
What aspects of the look are achievable for your lips
What may not be realistic or safe
How we can adapt your goals to suit your unique anatomy
Rather than promising a copy-and-paste result, inspiration photos allow us to set realistic expectations, align on a shared vision, and create a customized treatment plan that enhances your natural features.
During treatment, a hyaluronic acid-based filler is carefully placed to enhance shape, volume, and symmetry. Most appointments take 30–45 minutes, and numbing is used for comfort.
After treatment, expect mild swelling and tenderness for a few days. Final results typically settle within 1–2 weeks.
Avoid Alcohol, Blood thinners, Ibuprphen, Aleve, Aspirin, Exercise and Salty foods for 48 hours.
Avoid presssure on the lips for the next week.
Bruising within the lips is normal and expected. Bruising that extends beyond the lip border is not normal and should be reported to your medical provider.
Swelling increases drastically within the first 48 hours and then slowly decreases over the next two weeks. Try to avoid exercise, excess salt, or alcohol in the first 48 hours post procedure. Swelling can happen unevenly this is normal and you should be left with the same symmetry you had when you left the office. You can decrease swelling by sleeping propped up by pillows.
Soreness, achiness, and discomfort is normal. Over the counter Tylenol should help. NSAIDs (Ibuprofen and Aleve), aspirin and alcohol can worsen bruising and slow healing. Extreme pain not controlled with Tylenol is NOT normal and you should notify your provider.
Mottling and blanching is not normal and you should contact your provider immediately.
If you develop a lump remember this is just the gel settling into your tissue, massage for 4 weeks as discussed.d
Remember it takes a full two weeks for your lips to settle and 4 weeks for lumps and bumps to fully go away.
Be patient!
